Pets on Quilts Show.

So August is finally here and its time to post my pictures for the Pets on Quilts show. I am lucky enough to share my home with two pets. Scamp is a 4 year old Yorkshire Terrier and Picasso is an eight year old oriental cross rescue cat. They both like to get involved with all stages of my stitching from choosing the fabrics to finishing the quilts.

Here Scamp is helping to lay out the quilt sandwich. He's really good at using his nose to get the fabric where he wants it.

I prefer to baste the sandwich together and Scamp oversees this process.

He also knows that once the quilt is prepared he will get a long walk before I start the quilting so watches carefully as the last stitches are added.

He also gets worried if I leave a quilt unattended. I was finishing stitching the back of the binding when the doorbell went. When I got back to my chair Scamp had made himself comfortable and was 'protecting' my work.

He loves to be photographed on the finished quilt. This quilt was designed and the blocks stitched together by my Rainbow unit (5 to 7 year old members of the Guide Association) for our Linus project.

Scamp wanted to show just how much he has grown since he was a pup. Here he is at 6 weeks.


Picasso loves to play whilst I sew but he is much more difficult to photograph because he quickly runs and hides as soon as he sees the camera. His favourite things are to watch the needle as it moves up and down or to put his paw under the machine arm and try to catch my hands as I move the quilt.  However he finds my fabric a great place to sleep. One afternoon I had just finished laying out my quilt sandwich and I decided to get a drink before I did the basting. When I came back he had crawled between the layers and was settling down for a nap.

I have now learnt to make sure all my fabric is secure if Picasso is around.


I also like to use fabric with cats,rabbits and a variety of other animals on them to make blocks for my quilts especially those for children such as this quilt for Linus. So far I have not made any dog or cat blocks but I shall be doing that later this year.
