A little organisation and a give away.

For what seems like ages I've been trying to organise my scraps. I love the way you start off a new quilt project with largish pieces of fabric and as the project progresses  the scraps get smaller and get moved to another project and so it goes on. There is very little waste. However I do find the organisation of the scraps a little tiresome.  So recently I have been trying to organise my scraps. I have several plastic containers that once held take away Chinese or Indian food. Washed out and dried they make great storage containers. Now I try and deal with my scraps as I work on the project. I cut the scraps into charm squares of varying sizes and also rectangles. This has already proved useful when starting a scrappy quilt. Having made the swoon quilt I also had a lot of triangles  which have been stitched together and I trimmed to useful sizes.

It's very satisfying work trimming the triangles down but I still have a good number to stitch together. I didn't realise just how many triangles were involved in making the swoon quilt. I do have a mini quilt in my sights for this month to use them up.

In trimming down my scraps I trimmed some of the wool fabric I had left after making my skirt for the 'Crazy about Wool' blog hop.

This fabric is a very soft grey wool with a check in it. I am having a 'wooly' give away. I have 16, 5 inch charm squares to give away to one winner and 20, 3 inch squares for the second winner.I will ship anywhere in the world. The give away will remain open until midnight Sunday 27th October (GMT)  All you have to do is leave a comment saying whether you would like the 5 inch or 3 inch squares

Here in the UK in late October, early November Innocent smoothies who make delicious fruit smoothies dress their bottles with little hats and for each smoothie sold wearing a hat 25p is donated to AgeUK. All the hats are knitted by knitters across the country and donated to the cause. Each year I take part and  I'm running a little behind on hat production.

This is what I have made so far this year and I really wanted to donate 50 so I need to get busy and get another 25 hats made in the next week. The hats knit up quickly but the pom poms take slightly longer to make.

I'm going to do a little knitting whilst reading The Crow Trap by Anne Cleeves. This is a murder mystery set in the north of England. It's the first of her books that I've read and I'm really enjoying it.

I hope you've had a good Friday

  2. Love the hats, my son loves Innocent Smoothies so we love this time of year when they are wearing their hats. The 5 inch squares would be ideal for me if I were to win your giveaway.

  3. That's a clever use for those little takeaway tubs. I don't quilt, so I'm not entering the giveaway but someone will love that quality material.
