Welcome to August

July seemed like a very busy month, more to do with work than life outside work. John and I had a day out in Winchester and we also had a two day trip in Northampton. I really enjoyed the walk along the canal at Braunstone. On the sewing front I added blocks to the Trip round the world blocks and turned them into a quilt for a child. Today I finished sewing the binding onto this quilt and I think it looks rather good. I am very happy with the quilting I did on this quilt.

I really like the fabric I found for the binding. It has all the colours that appear in the quilt.

I also worked on the Kantha birds. I finished, (apart from the beak and the legs) the green woodpecker but I'm not completely happy with it. I will be remaking this as I want to use the embroideries in a quilt.

Over the month I have spent some time working on the quilting on the dinosaur quilt. I have one last dinosaur to quilt and the borders. I really want to finish this quilt this month.

We are now on August 3 and on Friday I went to the Festival of Quilts. I have some photos to share in another post. It was a great day out but very tiring. Yesterday older daughter and grandson spent the day with us which was fun but also tiring. As a result I'm having a quiet today although I have made a lemon drizzle cake and some millionaires shortbread.

I've just tried a slice of the lemon drizzle cake with my cup of tea. It is so moist and yummy.

Plans for August need to be thought about. I am on leave until 19th August and I'm excited to have some time to do some gardening and also some sewing. I know the time will fly by so I need to stay organised to make best use of the time and also to get plenty of rest. The Chookshed Challenge number for August was released and is number 7. My number 7 was the Garden Quilt.

I want to make this quilt as a gift but I also want to make a Christmas quilt as a gift for someone else, which I didn't have in my mind when writing my challenge list. So now I'm wondering if I can switch the two quilts round and make the Christmas quilt as my number 7 or maybe I start both and get the Christmas one finished for Christmas and the Garden quilt finished in the New Year. I'm on leave from work but I've still got to make decisions? Really! I'll give it some thought later this evening and I will make a decision.

Now I need to help John cook dinner. When John retired he decided he would do the cooking when I'm working but when I'm on leave we both do the cooking, usually together.

I'll link this post to Dreamworthy Quilts for the July Chookshed Challenge round up.

Tomorrow I want to finish the quilting on the dinosaur quilt and I have a dress I want to make over my holiday. Other than that I have no major plans for the next two weeks.

Take care

Lyndsey
