This week was a bit of a washout as I acquired a cough and a cold over last weekend. I don't mind the cold but coughing really is exhausting. Over the counter medication has worked well and I'm almost back to a good level of fitness. I cancelled our visit to my brother but we will visit in December. We did go to the theatre on Thursday to see The Hollow which is one of Agatha Christie's stories with the main charachter being Hercule Poirot. The cast was excellent and we both really enjoyed the play .The theatre in Richmond is old and very beautiful and intimate. It makes a perfect evening out. We have tickets for another play in November but without looking I can't remember what it is.
Yesterday I had some household chores to catch up on, including doing my weekly grocery order. The rest of the day was mine. I wanted to get the cat cushions finished so that's what I got on with. The fronts were finished but I needed to add the backs. This gave me a chance to use my new overlocker. I bought it in September but I hadn't turned it on since it was delivered. I sat down with the manual and read it through carefully. When it was delivered it was set for 4 thread overlocking which was exactly what I wanted to do so that made it easier. To finish the cushions I used the overlocker. It was quick and easy but still a little nerve wracking as I started. By the time I finished all the seams it felt like I had been using it for years. Here are the two cushion covers. They need a good press and I still need to buy the cushion pads.
These are for my son . Casso was an elegant black cat who was an important part of the family for 21 years. The cats on the cushion look just like him. The backing fabric also has black cats on it. I love that there is a mouse on the fabric as Casso was an excellent mouser when needed.
The cushion cover has an envelope back so no zip needed.
I spent the rest of the afternoon revisiting my various projects. I haven't had a lot of sewing time recently so I needed to reacquaint myself with progress. I also wanted to work out a plan to ensure I work on all the projects reguarly. Unfortunately I tend to forget where I've got to with things.
Today I pulled out the Red House Mansion quilt. I haven't worked on this all year.
The next round has applique on it. Today I completed 4 flowers. I already have two sets of four appliques, four butterflies and four flowers. These are the flowers I made today.
This evening I'm going to cut out some of the flower pots and hopefully tomorrow get them stitched down. I also need to make a decision about the sashing between the blocks on this round. I'm not following the colour arrangements in the pattern but I am sticking to red and blue. My aim is to have this round completed during November and then I can work on the final round which is flying geese. When I visit my favourite quilt shop in December I will need to buy wadding and some backing fabric. It would be good to have this quilt finished as I would like to make Elizabeth Hartman's, Dogs in Sweaters quilt.
Now that the hot weather is over for the year I also need to get back to my knitting. Knitting really is a winter pastime for me. John has asked me to knit him an aran cardigan. He chose the pattern and I need to order the yarn. I definitely won't be working on this in the summe
My plan for Sunday is to complete more of the applique blocks and sort out fabric for the sashing. There are a lot of people out and about this evening since it is Halloween. Enjoy halloween, but for me I'm looking forward to bonfire night next week. I love the fireworks.
Take care
Lyndsey
