Carol from 'Just let me Quilt' has organised another fun blog hop. The challenge was to produce something with a twirl, could be a pinwheel or a Dresden or using fabric with a twirl on it. I decided this hop would help me focus on making the third baby quilt for the year. This one will be gifted next month.
My starting point was a fun, brightly coloured charm pack and sufficient neutral fabric to make pinwheel blocks. In addition I had two short panels of non scary aliens. I wanted to use white fabric between the pinwheels and so I purchased a white charm pack by free spirit. Having already made one quilt with pinwheels this year, I found the blocks went together very quickly Trimming the pinwheel blocks before stitching the top together took time. The top was finished and measures 33 inches by 43 inches but I can't decide if I want to add a border or not.
Here is a close up of the white blocks. I love the design on them.
I also like the aliens. Ages ago I bought a scrap pack and these two panels were in the pack.
I already have the backing fabric and as I know the new baby is a boy, this fabric will do perfectly. I will probably use it for the binding but I do have a stripped fabric I could use.
On Friday, when I finish work for the Easter break, I will create the quilt sandwich and start the quilting. Thanks to taking part in this blog hop the quilt will be finished and waiting for the baby to be born. I will just need to add the quilt label when I know the baby's name.
Last month I made a pinwheel quilt and I have started the quilting. I need to get it finished over the Easter break. I can see quite a lot of quilting in my future!
Oh what fun baby quilts. Pinwheel blocks are such a fun way to use fun print fabrics too. Love them!
ReplyDeleteOk...just how many times can I say fun in one sentence. LOL!!
DeletePerfect pinwheels in this adorable quilt! I love those aliens, too. You totally whirled your way into meeting the challenge and creating a sweet quilt. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteFun quilts! I like the aliens in the border of the baby quilt. Thanks for sharing! (I am not anonymous—my ipad won’t cooperate. I’m Carol K of Just Sew Quilter.)

ReplyDeleteVery cute quilts. The robots panel is cute too.
ReplyDeleteSo many pretty and colorful pinwheels! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI love your quilt, especially the aliens. The backing is a good choice, too.
ReplyDeleteBoth pinwheel quilts are great! Have fun with the quilting!
ReplyDeletePinwheels and friendly aliens, wonderful together. I feel it does need a border, could you use some of the backing fabric as a border perhaps?
ReplyDeleteCute quilts! Have fun quilting on your nice Easter weekend. That's my plan as well.
ReplyDeleteBoth of your pinwheels are wonderful. I really love the not so scary aliens. They are perfect for a new baby.
ReplyDeleteI'm loving all the twirl quilts appearing & yours has given me an idea for a baby quilt I need to make whose gender is unknown, so needs to be pretty neutral. Thanks for sharing, take care & hugs.
ReplyDeleteSuper cute "twirly" quilts in the works, Lyndsey!!
ReplyDeleteThat is such a cute quilt, love it.
ReplyDeleteI thought both quilts were lovely. The aliens I thought were applique until I read they were a fabric piece. They really do work well with the bright pinwheels and the backing will look great on this. Enjoy your quilting time finishing them.
ReplyDeleteLovely!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, and fun too.
